Become a Community Garden Partner at a Common Earth Garden this season! The Common Earth Gardens team is supporting two communities as they start new community gardens in their neighborhoods. A community garden’s first year requires a significant amount of labor to develop shared garden spaces (herb and pollinator gardens, children’s gardens and play spaces, compost infrastructure, etc.) as well as relationship building, developing garden leadership teams, determining how decisions will be made, and developing a garden vision to guide the development of the space.
Community Garden Partners will have the opportunity to form relationships with refugee, immigrant, and low-income gardeners by being at regularly scheduled workdays during the season and providing assistance and a friendly face to gardeners. We will work with you to use your skills as the garden is developed this year!
Responsibilities (with support from Common Earth Gardens staff):
Dates & Times:
Schedule TBD. Commitment can range from once a week to once a month during part or all of the growing season (March-November). Please contact Rachel at firstname.lastname@example.org for more information about the garden site and scheduling your volunteer days.
175 E Kenwood Way behind the Americana World Community Center at 4801 Southside Drive.
The gardeners at several Common Earth Gardens are in need of volunteers who are interested and skilled to work with them to build garden signs, message boards, compost bins, water catchment systems, tool sheds, and more! If you would like to share your construction skills, we would love to work with you and the gardeners to complete these projects and make it easier for gardeners to grow food for their families and our community.
Date, Time, & Place:
Please contact Rachel at email@example.com to discuss what projects are available and to schedule a volunteer day at one of the Common Earth Gardens
The gardeners at Common Earth Gardens are often looking for volunteer groups to help with big workdays in the spring, summer, and fall. Work may include: weeding, mulching paths, turning compost, mowing, weed eating, planting, maintaining common areas, picking up trash, and assisting with community events (signing people in, serving food, taking pictures).
Date, Time, & Place:
Please contact Rachel at firstname.lastname@example.org for available dates and times between March and November to bring your group to a volunteer day at one of the Common Earth Gardens. Garden workdays often last 2 to 4 hours. We ask that volunteers bring their own water, sunscreen, closed-toed shoes, and clothes that they don’t mind getting dirty.
Catholic Charities truly appreciates the support from our community. Without the help of committed volunteers, we could never carry on our work of Providing Help and Creating Hope for those in need.
There are many ways to be involved. From attending a garden workday – to administrative work – to mentoring – to sorting donated items – we can match your interests and talents.
